Northrop Grumman has released an advertisement, perhaps for the Super Bowl, that shows an animation of what the next generation of fighter may look like, a tailless, cranked kite design that would also be stealthy. Along for the mission are the B-2 Spirit and the X-47 Unmanned Air Combat Vehicle (UCAV). It looks pretty slick. But I have to wonder at what point all fighters will be unmanned.

Christ we can barely get a working 5th gen...they can fuck off with the idea of a 6th gen fighter already

Considering Northrop Grumman just won the Long Range Strike Bomber contract...it’s likely not a 6th generation fighter.

Northrop isn’t building it so they’ve gotta do something to get noticed. Furthermore given Lockheed’s debacle you gotta figure they’ll have a little bit of a leg up

Looks like a fighter to me. This could also be meant for Russian and Chinese consumption, and be a complete red herring.

The F-22 seems to be working just fine. We could just use more of them.

The F-35 on the other hand...

I’m not scientician but that don’t look right. The exhaust nozzles look too small, there doesn’t appear to be sufficient wing, etc

Or it could be entirely fiction ;)

If they were really developing a 6th fighter it sure wouldn’t show up in an advertisement.

The only things known from LRS-B are what the USAF was looking for when it seeked bids for the program...but what is expected is a flying wing shaped heavy bomber capable of supersonic flight.

That looks like it’s supposed to be Groom Lake, though I doubt those hangers have windows. The spot also suggests the LRS-B will make it’s public debut soon [plz]

Eventually, they’ll just build the place from Stealh, A.K.A. Skynet in the sky.

Well, they already have UCAVs, and now they’re talking about arsenal aircraft that will orbit just outside a battle space, stuffed with missiles and JDAMs that can be called down on an enemy. And the best part? They’ll be launchable by drones. Skynet is a lot closer than you think.

Like I said, this could just be a red herring to impress (or not) the Reds.

But this is the FUTURE. They said the F-117 was hopeless, too.
